Pink + Gray Nursery Reveal

The moment you have all been waiting for is here...Hayley's room reveal!

Just a quick catch up for those that haven't been reading along. I am not pregnant. I wish I was, but it looks like that's not in the plans right now. Really I just have baby fever from all of you cute pregnant gals and your cute little babies. However, our wonderfully wonderful friends Daniel and Ruby ARE expecting a baby..a girl...like any day now. Around these parts Daniel and Ruby are referred to as the besties, BFF's, and "Uncle Dan" and "Aunt Ruby." That's just how we roll. Wow, I am just on a tangent today. Let's get to it, shall we?

So, what do you think?! This was most definitely a labor of love for a little girl who is already so loved. We honestly can't wait until she gets here so we can see her enjoying her new space. I mean seriously, she's got to be excited to get out of her current cramped corners right? Hayley, are you listening?!

I don't think I'll ever grow tired of seeing a space go from a simple idea to actual reality. It amazes me every time. I love that Daniel and Ruby gave me a lot of "creative control" and yet I would say they were some serious hard workers getting this done. They like to act all humble like they did nothing, but seriously they worked hard on their daughter's room. I will say one thing...I think we all agree that when you are pregnant, limiting the DIY is a good thing. I am pretty sure Ruby said that at one point. We had a LOT of DIY going on (many inspired by Pinterest of course) and well, Ruby, being the overachiever she is (seriously that girl can do more in a day than I can in an entire year, girl's got skills) decided to take on a bunch of projects. I loved her enthusiasm, but worried for her safety. All is well, she survived and from the looks on their faces I would say they are actually happy with the room. Good thing, cause that was our goal. So thank you to two of the greatest friends out there for trusting us enough to help design your baby's nursery. And thank you to my partner-in-crime...the hubsters...for the five million trips over to the house to install yet another shelf, paint another wall, and answer another mathematical question. That guy rocked it. AND thank you to all of you lovely readers for actually believing in me and pushing me to get these photos taken so you could see it. I was a little worried, but hey the only opinions that mattered were those of the parents (and baby of course!).

So do you like it? Anything in particular you have questions about? I'll try to remain respectful of Daniel and Ruby's privacy, but if you do have questions please don't hesitate to ask! Anyone notice that we kind of are pushing Hayley to become a reader....the girl's got no chance.

 *I'm hoping to update the photos as we finish a few things up. The gallery wall will be finished once Hayley makes her debut. The frame around Hayley's name is being touched up so the strange glimmer you see is just some unfinished painting that needs to be done...actually it may already have been at this point. 


**I'm also hoping to either A) Happen upon a new lens so that I can get crisper photos or B) Take some photos in the earlier hours when the sun is on that side of the house to get some better shots. This may help show that the walls are all in fact the same shade of gray. Sadly, the kit lens had a bit of a hard time capturing everything perfectly, but it got the job done, what more could we ask? 

No Room At The Inn

Can I be honest with you all (whoever you may be) about something? When we bought our house and I saw that it was mini-sized it kind of made me happy. Yes, we really strive to live within our means and I was all for the challenge of living in 834 sq. ft. (that is livable space...don't mind the fact that we are all but taking up every inch of the 834 sq. ft. in the unfinished basement!), but that wasn't what was causing me joy. Okay, get ready, this is going to sound harsh, but I promise to try to make sense of it so bear (or bare?) with me. I was happy because it meant we had an excuse not to entertain. Whoa. I just admitted that I was happy I couldn't have people over and throw parties. The thing is I am terrified of hosting. I LOVE planning parties (um hello Eden's ridiculous first birthday party), but the idea of being the host frightens me. The whole time we have people over I am stressing about if I am doing things right, if they like the food, if I am boring them, if the house I smell okay (what?), and a million other things. Instead of just enjoying the fact that our friends (or family) are spending time with us, I just stress. So, my newest challenge is to be an entertainer and ENJOY IT. Every ounce of it. No more stressing (yes, Brittany...this may be why it has taken me FOREVER to have you over!). With that in mind I have been dreaming of our future home, the one that will be able to house more than 3 people and a dog comfortably.

My future house will have a large open kitchen. I don't mean the actual prep area has to be huge or anything because really anything bigger than mine will seem spacious. What I am looking for is a kitchen that has room to move and places to sit and eat. Kitchens are the hub of the home and currently I turn into a raving lunatic if a certain husband, child, or dog feel the need to share the space with me while I am cooking. I WANT them there, but the fact that I have to trip over them in order to move two inches to grab a spatula just drives me bananas. So, an open and inviting kitchen has been added to the list.

Another must have for my new entertaining lifestyle is a large and open living area. Are you sensing a trend here? I would love a space that has plenty of room to host a slew of friends and family while still feeling warm and inviting. Currently we own one small sofa, a slipper chair, and a desk chair...with a few ottomans scattered between. This usually means if we have more than a couple of people over, many are sitting on the floor. That's not horrible, but its not ideal. I would like my guests to feel comfortable after all.

One last thing. A bathroom. Or, more importantly an extra bathroom. We have ONE bathroom in this whole entire house. You would think that would be enough for two adults and a baby, but it is not. AND THEN you add visitors and it is just pure chaos. Someone is always in there when you need to go..well, you know. Oh and the shower? Good luck.

So, while I am perfectly happy in my home right now and have no intention of buying a bigger home anywhere in the near future (what?! I still need some more time to adjust to the idea of being this fantastic entertainer) I will still dream of our future house and continue to gather inspiration. Dreaming is always a good thing.


What would be in your dream house, or even your next house? Is anyone else dying over that gorgeous living room?! I wish I were that kid so I could run in there too. Also, any of you smarties out there know how to get the source to be centered under the photo or a better way to embed photos from Pinterest? I am goings all sorts of crazy trying to fix it.

A Thank You, Frozen Yogurt, And An Announcement!

Wow. You guys are amazing. You knocked our socks off (funny expression by the way). I honestly didn't actually expect anyone to make it through that entire post, and truthfully I didn't think I could be blessed even more than I already had been. See, there's me doubting again. I need to realize that I can't doubt God's power. Anyway, all of the encouragement we received after that last post really meant a lot to us. I am just sitting here with a goofy grin on my face because I am just so gosh darn happy. So, thank you. Seriously. You rock! Oh and to the anonymous person...love you too, just wish I knew who you were. Glad we are friends though ;)

Alright, I know you didn't come here to listen to my sappy ramblings. You will have to hold tight though, I have one last thing to show you before I reveal our newest venture. 

One thing I have been promising to show you is my parent's self-serve frozen yogurt shop. They opened LIMEberry last August and I must say that I certainly do appreciate having an endless supply of frozen yogurt and toppings at my fingertips. Oh, in case you were wondering my go to combination is: Reese's peanut butter yogurt on the bottom, chocolate and vanilla swirl on top, M&M's, Reese's peanut butter cups, oreos, and a pump of Reese's peanut butter sauce on top. Absolute perfection. What? You don't think that's healthy? Well, I'll have you know that peanut butter has protein and chocolate has antioxidants. See, I am healthier than you think.

Alright, back to the subject at hand. I finally got a few photos of their location and wanted to share them with you. Before they opened, they had given me the opportunity to help design the shop and was I ever ecstatic! Unfortunately I was rather pregnant at the time and so busy with work that I couldn't do as much as I would have liked. I did send them a mood board and then they would consult me on their choices (some that I approved and some that I didn't...sometimes they listened, sometimes they didn't). Basically I showed them my vision (which also came together by listening to what they had envisioned as well) and then let them choose things accordingly. Here is the mood board that I sent to them.

We were looking for a fun, modern, and clean looking frozen yogurt shop. At the time the concept of self-serve frozen yogurt was very new to Salem so we got to really run with our ideas. As you can see the color scheme was lime and hot pink (I am sure there is a technical name for the pink/purple they are using, but I'm too lazy to find that out). Alright, here are a couple of "after" photos of the space.

I think you can see the "vision" translated into the space. It definitely isn't exactly the same, they had to make some changes to the original vision to fit the budget and location, but I still had lots of fun helping out with the design of a commercial space. It definitely stretched me a lot, and while it was similar to designing homes in some ways, there were definitely a lot of differences. 


ANNOUNCEMENT, ANNOUNCEMENT, ANNOUNCEMENT!!!


I've made you all wait long enough. After many months of some serious planning we have partnered up to open up our own LIMEberry location! 


Seriously. I know. I am still in denial. Shock is a word I use often. If you asked me 6 months ago what we would be doing with our lives, this would definitely not be it. However, we are SO EXCITED about this new venture. 


To answer the question that I know a lot of you probably have....yes, Josh will still be doing real estate. Honestly, we both LOVE his career...but there is one part that we don't love. The income. When real estate is good, it's real good, but when real estate is not good...well, it means we may not see a dime for all of the work for months. Obviously things are going to be a bit insane around our household for awhile, but we still feel its the right decision. I will be husbandless a lot, but its a sacrifice we are ready to make for now. We have been blessed with a lot of family time lately, but we know it is time to change things up a bit. Family is still a priority, but Josh needs to be able to provide for us. So, things will most certainly not be easier for awhile, but there is no doubt in our minds that this is right. We are learning how to handle this new lifestyle and making a commitment to one another that we will still make time for lots of fun family time. 


Alright, now is when I open it up to you. If you have questions please ask. While we all know I try to be very open on here, when it comes to the business there is going to be a lot that I will have to keep under wraps. I hope you understand. Since it is such a big part of our lives I am sure it will find its way on here every once in awhile. If I get enough questions I'll do another post to answer all of them since I am guessing there will be others asking the same thing.

A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock 'N Roll

To anyone who knows me very well, this statement is going to bring big bouts of laughter....

Sometimes I think it would be fun to buy an old farmhouse on an acre or two of land.

Say what, say what, say whaaaaat?! 

Okay, for those who don't know me like my family and friends do, this statement is kind of crazy. In fact, I am guessing my parents are going to call me if they read this and make sure I didn't bump my head. Here's the thing. I grew up in a town outside of L.A....yep, as in the super big city in Southern California. We moved to Oregon when I was 9 years old. I was angry with my parents. I LOVED living in California. Sunshine is my addiction. I had my best friends. I didn't want to move to this stinky old state with endless rainfall. And snow?! Don't even get me started on snow. Well, not only did my parents have the evil desire to ruin my life by moving me to this state full of green grass and trees, but they made me move to the COUNTRY. As in, horses, pigs, tractors driving down the roads. Yeah, that kind. You better believe there was some major lower lip poutage (new word, I just made it up) going on. In fact, I threw a fit almost daily all the way until I was in college. I actually planned on going to school in California, but things just didn't work out. 

Silly me. Now I actually see the beauty in this state. I enjoy having four seasons. Don't get me wrong, I miss California and no matter what you tell me, I think it is the greatest state, but I fit in here. My hair turned brown when we moved here and I think it was a sign that I was here to stay. 

Okay, I went on just a bit of a rabbit trail there. I felt it was necessary for you to understand just how crazy the idea of me wanting an old farmhouse really is. BUT think of the possibilities. A house so full of character that just needs some loving. An old barn with wood just begging to be salvaged. A large field just begging for my baby girl to run through and make up adventures among the tall weeds. I would love to hear her laugh in the field while I am making dinner in our kitchen. Oh and animals? We would definitely have to have more animals. I definitely want chickens. Farm fresh eggs? YES PLEASE. Now, dream with me if you will....look at the possibilities...

We could use the salvaged wood from the old barn to create a headboard and a bedroom door like this...

House*Tweaking

I have already tried convincing Josh of doing this one and when I found this photo I thought for sure he would be on board...maybe the next house (no we aren't moving yet...but we definitely are not in our forever home right now either).

If you haven't yet understood my love for Sarah Richardson, maybe you will understand now. She turned this old farmhouse into a place where I could stay forever. So beautiful and serene...

Oh and the kitchen of my dreams? You want to see it? Why, of course you do!

House Beautiful

Don't worry, I am not waiting until I have a farmhouse to actually have this kitchen. We have something similar in mind for our current kitchen. Unfortunately you will not be seeing after pics for awhile...the kitchen reno will most likely be in 2012. Sorry for the disappointment. 


I want me an old farmhouse. NOW. Actually, I will settle for the dream...because in reality I love being so near to stores and houses and people. I love the sound of cars driving by, sirens in the distance, and children laughing...it makes me feel a bit like I am back in the big city. It never hurts to dream though right? 


What's your absolute dream house? Would it be located in the big city, a small town, or maybe you would really love to live amongst tractors and horses.

Paint On The Ground

Upon typing the title of this post I instantly had a flashback to the smash hit of "Pants on the Ground" from American Idol. I don't even watch the show (shame on me!), but I couldn't miss the overnight success of one American Idol contestant. Okay, maybe it was just me that thought of that song just from the title.

In thinking of yesterday's post I realized not all of you have hardwoods floors living under your carpet or maybe you love carpet, but your carpet  is looking a bit...umm...icky. Well, if that is the case then this post is for you! I didn't want to leave everyone else out after my wood floor post yesterday.

Alright, so for those of you that are sitting there thinking, "gee, I want to have easy to clean floors, but don't have the money to buy new flooring," this is for you.

Painted sub-floors.

Yes, you heard me right. Rip up that carpet like it's nobody's business and paint away. Seriously, if we didn't have continuous hardwoods floors throughout I would totally be doing this. I am kind of thinking our nasty bathroom linoleum or our dump basement might be getting a paint treatment soon.

Is that not the most fantastic idea ever? I have always dreamed of having white washed wood floors like the image above. My mind is already painting (pun not intended) pictures of white floors with white walls. I love a nice refreshing palate. I think a nice dose of white is just what every creative soul needs.

My favorite painted sub-floor has to be Ashley Ann's at  Under the Sycamore. She is full of awesomeness that blows my mind.

Baby on the Brain

Since there seems to be a giant wave of pregnant woman, most of them having girls, I thought it fitting to design a nursery for a boy. Oh drats, I got that mixed up, I should have given some inspiration to all the mommy's needing GIRL nurseries. Well, sorry, I was in the mood for all things boy...especially seeing that I am in a girl's nursery each and every day.

When I started this nursery, I knew I wanted navy. Yeah, NAVY walls. Daring? Yes. Totally the most rocking color ever? ABSOLUTELY. I honestly thought that with the navy I would choose orange as an accent color. It just so happens to be Josh's favorite color and the color we would have used instead of yellow and pink if Eden were a boy. Well, just as inspiration goes, I was suddenly hit hard by the urge to use citron with the navy. I literally fainted at the absolute fabulousness of that color combo. Okay, well I didn't literally faint, but I thought about it.

Despite this being a "dream" nursery (since there are no signs of bambinos anytime in the near future) I still tried to keep it to a budget, just as I would if I were designing it for a real live baby. This meant shopping where regular people shop, and not choosing furniture that cost as much as my house. Oh, and as usual I chose to shop "outside the box" by choosing items that were not necessarily in the baby section of the store. What can I say, I like to walk on the wild side...

Bachelor Update: Number Four

I am a day late in posting this, but our nights have been filling up fast. We recently started attending a new church and we are realizing how important it is to be in a place where fellowship is valued. That being said, I have excuses as to why I have been slacking in the blogging department, but I will not use anymore of them. On to the most important part...did Bella make it another week?

She sure did! This girl is lighting Burger's fire which makes us oh so very proud. The competition is now down to the final 5 and it sure is a nail biter. While we know that Bella is a perfect pup who is oh so made for Burger, others dont know that so we have to work hard to prove that each week. As always, we will share a picture of our beautiful girl in all her finest...hmmm does that work for dogs since they technically don't wear clothes?

Oh House Beautiful, how did I ever live without you? I have honestly fallen head over heels in love with House Beautiful magazine (sorry babe, you just can't compare). I received their latest issue today and honestly I think it might be my favorite yet. It was eye candy on steroids. One thing I really loved about the December issue was the fact that they interviewed a lot of designers asking them what they expected the newest trends to be. Now, I am certainly not ahead of the trends most of the time. I would say I take a moment to warm up to the newest trends to see if they have staying power, and then once I deem them worthy I jump in with both feet.  The reason why I loved this part of the issue so much was because multiple designers predicted that gray was the new beige. If you looked at the mood board I posted of our living room you will see that gray is a color that I LOVE. If you saw mood boards for the rest of the rooms you would really understand that I have a sickness. I am okay with it. Here are a few photos I quickly fell in love with on House Beautiful's site.

Living Room Mood Board

Since owning a home is still another year away for us I spend a lot of time on Polyvore designing my pretend house. I get such a strong desire to start puting together a room, so I figure this is a way to get my thoughts out into a mood board so I can make changes as I go. Each mood board I create is definitely a rough draft as my ideas change over time. Seeing as a year is a long time to wait to be able to get pictures of our nonexistent home I decided to go ahead and share my favorite nonexistent room that I have designed. It may be a rough draft, but I am still excited to be able to get my hands on my real house and design my real living room.

The wall color is a dark shade of gray with accents of pale blue, white, and black. I went ahead and posted the prices of the items in the room for those who were curious, although they are not the exact items that we would use in our room. We would reuse items that we already have and combine them with some new ones as well.

The great thing about the mood board is that Josh and I have realized that we have one item we most certainly want to part with when we move, our coffee table. We have nothing against our little black coffee table, it has provided us with a place to eat, put our feet up, and store TONS of stuff in its four drawers. However, in our quest to slowly introduce beautiful items that are kid friendly we found that we definitely wanted an ottoman in place of our well used coffee table. Thankfully we don't feel like we are wasting money by replacing the coffee table because we got it for super cheap at Fred Meyer before we were married.

Hope you enjoyed a sneak peek into our "living room." We hope that someday soon we can turn our mood boards into reality, but for now we are staying content with what we have. Besides, we find its a great way to work out any kinks in our design before we actually implement it.

Our Little Bachelorette

Bella did it! She is one of the 17 finalists (down from 24) in the dog version of the Bachelor. We are all getting more and more anxious about this whole thing. The competition is fierce (a la Tyra Banks) and there is a lot of love for a certain MinPin. Thankfully we feel confident that our Bella is a star and that her and Burger are destined for great things. We are continually crossing our fingers (and paws) as the competition gets more and more intense.

I have been in love with the beauty of these chairs. I have seen them popping up everywhere and I want some for my house. Maybe a birthday present? Honey are you listening?!

Ok I need to stop dreaming and remember that currently we are living in 800 sq. feet of yellowish white walls until owning a home becomes a reality. Until that day comes I am just designing the house in my head.

Shopaholics Unite!

Ikea, Ikea, Ikea, I am so glad that you are only an hour away from my home. I grew up entering in your doors many days, strolling through your massive showroom, eating all the glorious food. When I moved up to Oregon I thought I might just die. The closest Ikea was hours and hours away in Seattle...although that never did keep my friends and I as high schoolers from taking trips up there and stuffing every crevice of our small cars with the goods. I am grown up now, and I must admit...absolutely nothing has changed! My friend Ruby (who besides my husband I tend to spend every waking moment with) had suggested an Ikea trip and even though I had promised myself this weekend would be devoted to cleaning, I just couldn't say no.

What prompted this trip? Well, awhile back Joshua sold Ruby and her husband their brand new house (which they got to watch being built in front of their very own eyes). Since then Ruby has given me the amazing privilege of designing the entire interior space! Um, yes please?!?! Although, truth be told...she thinks I am doing all the designing, but she really doesn't realize just how much she is inspiring the design. I have my secret ways of getting her to tell me what she REALLY likes and then I do my best to incorporate it. So sneaky I am. Anyway, yesterday's goal was more items for the walls, some extra accessories, pillows for the couches, bookshelves, lighting...well there was a long list. So how did we fare? Well, let's see...

Actually I will take a brief pause in programming to not forget the fabulous other favorite store...HOME GOODS! Home goods is another store that is not located in Salem (although at least we do have TJMaxx..phew!). Funny thing is HG is located right in the same parking lot as Ikea so we always get to hit up both on the same trip. This trip up we chose to hit the Goods before going to the giant Swedish store. We did score a few things, but namely these satiny pillows...

After a quick stop for some nourishment we entered into the land of Ikea. No matter how many times I have been there, it is a requirement to browse the well designed sets. There are wonderful ideas in there..and being an apartment dweller I can certainly appreciate all the multi-use and efficiently sized items. So did  we accomplish our goals? NEARLY. We were able to get a lot of the accessories that we were in search of, as well as almost completely finishing the dining room. We had hoped to get the two bookshelves that Ruby had picked out, but unfortunately the boxes weighed more than we did AND the car was already filled to the brim. SO CLOSE! We also did not find the light fixtures Ruby was hoping for, but I am confident that Target will probably be able to help us out there.

So, want to see what was accomplished last night? Oh wait, let me tell you that our entire trip up and back to the two stores lasted NINE hours. Not only that, but we then spent the next three hours assembling. LONG DAY, but so very worth it. Ready for the dining room? Here it is...

I was so happy with the outcome and both homeowners seemed to be as well. What a successful day! The bookshelf I spoke of earlier will serve two purposes...shelf space AND buffet. The dining room and living room are connected so with the addition of that piece they will have a lot of versatility.
